Free Spirited

As an extroverted introvert, it can be hard to find events that satiate your social needs without overwhelming you. But alas, I think I’ve found one so I just have to share it with you!

A few months ago, I was invited to 6pm in Cognac, the brainchild of Shannon Evans (IG @shannonsevans), sponsored by Martell USA. Since that time, I’ve attended quite a few events at the expertly curated Home by Martell ATL. It’s becoming one of my favorite places to hang in Atlanta.

The Ambiance

For starters, the space is impeccable. The unit sits in downtown Atlanta penthouse and overlooks the entire city with a breathtaking view. Blue, gold, and cognac (pun intended) hues sweep the atmosphere and make you feel at home as soon as you enter. Murals don the walls, paying homage to Atlanta and its influence on the culture. I’m telling you – the place is dope!

The Cognac

Now, everyone has their go-to cognac, whether they know it’s a cognac or not. Hennessy, Courvoiser, and Remy-Martin are some of the better known brands, but Martell is actually ‘the oldest of the great Cognac houses“. 6pm in Cognac is an intimate luncheon held once a month, highlighting Martell, its history and a few of the ways to enjoy it. You never know who is invited until you show up, so that’s always a treat. As if we needed a reason to drink Cognac midday, the luncheon begins at noon – when it’s 6pm in Cognac, France. Shannon designs some amazing seasonal cocktails, all prepared with Martell VS Single Distillery. To be honest, I didn’t know cognac was so versatile. I’ve added Martell to my home bar cart because of these events alone.

The Meal

The three-course menu was created by Chef India (IG @chefindia.co) who is a self proclaimed sauce queen – and rightfully so! Course One consisted of cod accras (Fritters) with roasted cauliflower puree and root vegetable chips with lemon garlic parsley butter. The main course was an Oxtail Pot Au Feu with winter vegetables and soup dumplings. If I was at home, I would have sucked the bone – but I have table manners. For dessert, we were served Meyer Lemon Creme Brulee Pot de Cream with fresh raspberries. I have no idea how I made it back to work.

I will say, even with expertly developed food and alcohol, the best part of Home by Martell ATL is the people you meet. The women I met at 6pm in Cognac, I still am connected with on a daily basis. I’ve supported a numerous amount of their events, even collaborated or hired them on a professional level. Should you ever get a chance to attend an event, absolutely go – and thank me later! In the meantime, go grab a bottle of Martell VS Single Distillery and check out some recipes here.
