It’s a Brew-ty Call: My Morning Mixture for Champions

A few days ago, I shared my morning coffee routine and how it completely transforms my day. The feedback for more info came flying in, so I thought it would be great to spill the beans (pun intended) right here on the blog.

Let’s get to it.

The Ingredients

  • 2.5 tablespoons of Instant Coffee
  • 8 ounces of hot water
  • 2 teaspoons of MCT Oil
  • 1 packet of Collagen Creamer

I personally combine all of the ingredients in my NutriBullet and blend for the best consistency. Because oil and water…yea. Blending for 4 seconds yields a creamier cup of coffee, which I love. It takes less than 5 minutes to prepare, and your body will thank you for it.

What is this stuff?

Collagen is a natural protein that your body produces. To put it simply, it’s the building block for connective tissues, and can be found in your muscles, skin, bones, blood and cartilage. It’s the glue that keeps everything intact. The name collagen literally translates from the Greek word meaning glue. While it’s great that the body makes it naturally, collagen production slows down as we age. Additionally, other lifestyle factors – like a poor diet – can deplete your storage.

MCT (my holy grail), an abbreviation for medium-chain triglycerides, is a healthy fat found in foods like coconut oil or palm oil. When people say coconut oil saves your life they weren’t lying, and MCT oil is the reason why. Due to their composition, MCTs are rapidly broken down and metabolized by the body. Therefore, they can be used as an instant energy source. And since they are more efficiently absorbed by the body, they are less likely to be stored as fat.

Why use it?

I can lead you to water, but I can’t make you drink. I’m also not a doctor or nutritionist, so I can only share my personal experience.

Collagen: My skin, nails, joints, and bones have thanked me. I haven’t seen a huge impact with my hair, but my nails are much stronger and grow quicker than ever. My skin is more supple and naturally glowy. I look refreshed when I wake up in the morning. My knees can represent for the 99s and the 2000s a little bit longer than they used to. Also, it helps me recover from workouts quicker, which is important to me.

MCT Oil: This gives me instant, non-jittery energy. My day is at least 68% more productive – my boss can attest. I’m more focused and alert, but also I sleep better. Better sleep means I’m waking up more refreshed, which plays a part in the whole glowy face thing. Also, I’ve noticed that I don’t have cravings or snack throughout the day. This has been so helpful on my fitness journey.

See how these things work together?

The key to MCT oil is to not overdo it. I’ve found that 2 teaspoons is a perfect amount for me to get the most from my day.

Where to get it?

Collagen: I purchase Vital Proteins Collagen Creamer from Amazon or Whole Foods. I keep different flavors on hand just to switch it up, and it’s easy to travel with. You can pour it into any coffee on the go.

MCT Oil: I’m really particular about my MCT Oil, as I’ve tried a few on the market. I defer to one brand, Bulletproof, that I also purchase from Amazon or Whole Foods. Lately, I’ve been trying one by Sports Research that I also like but I use it less than BP. Sports Research has an entire line of health goodies, so I may incorporate more of their products into my routine.

That’s all for now. If you have any questions or suggestions, definitely drop a note below!

Ahh this means so much! Thank you for coming along for the ride. Re: MCT oil, definitely try it in something other than coffee if you want. Smoothies are a great way to start using it. Let me know if you hop on the bandwagon!
